Nintendo não tem mais distribuição oficial de jogos no Brasil

Nintendo no longer has official game distribution in Brazil

Finding Nintendo games and products was getting more and more difficult here in Brazil. As we mentioned last year, delays in launches were constant and products like the desired Amiibos were not even expected to arrive. Well, now the situation has gotten even worse since, as of this month of January, Gaming do Brasil (official representative of Big N here) will no longer distribute the company's games in national territory.

In a statement, Nintendo's director and general manager for Latin America, Bill van Zyll, said bringing the company's games here was becoming "unsustainable" because of "Challenges in the local business environment." According to the executive, these “challenges” are themselves: taxes.

“These challenges include the high import tariffs that apply to our industry and our decision not to have a local manufacturing operation,” says van Zyll. The taxation is the same for all companies, but Microsoft and Sony manage to continue in Brazil thanks to the investments of both in local production of their consoles (Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 have been manufactured in Brazil for some time) and games press, which is apparently not possible for Nintendo.

Still, he says the company will monitor the Brazilian market to assess a better way to bring Nintendo games into the future.

The worst thing is that the situation seems to be only in Brazil, since the distribution of games in the rest of Latin America will not be affected. That is, Brazilian gamers can be sucking their thumbs for expected Nintendo games in 2015, such as the new Zelda and Star Fox, as it will be much more difficult to find them by legal means. Who celebrates with this is the gray market.

We contacted Nintendo to find out how the eShop situation on the 3DS is here in Brazil and will update the post as soon as we receive a response. the company informed that there will be no changes in relation to the operations of the eShop in Brazil, which means that the online store on the 3DS will continue to function normally.
